Thanks, this is a helpful way of thinking about my current project. Finish the first draft, then start over with fresh eyes, based on a better understanding of characters, themes, plot and setting, rather than just editing the words to make what I’ve written more palatable. I can’t imagine submitting an unedited manuscript though — why do people do that to themselves?!
